I recently introduced one of our clients to responsive web design as a way to address mobile. In doing so I realized that I needed to help them think about web design in a new way. People usually see desktop and mobile as different things, so their ideas about designing for each are compartmentalized. "Now we'll think about desktop. Now we'll think about mobile."
But responsive design doesn't work like that. You're making one thing that transforms itself in certain contexts. To me, it was helpful to think of responsive design as a continuum. And to remind people that there's no such thing as magic mobile dust.
What do you think?
